Culture and Place in Britain is a report published by the Key Cities group in partnership with Arts Council England that provides a snapshot of culture in urban Britain by reviewing policy and data through the lens of the 27 cities and towns in the group. Highlighting the power of culture to benefit places and people across the country and pointing out that culture reaches the parts other policies cannot reach, the report calls on the government to support creative microclusters to drive inclusive growth, and to place culture at the heart of a renewed drive towards hyperlocal devolution.
Published in February 2023, the report was written and edited by Kasper de Graaf with perspectives contributed by six universities, voices from across the sector, and data from Arts Council England, the Arts Council of Wales and Creative Scotland. With an assessment of national and local policies on culture and place from investment in priority places to UK Cities of Culture, the report is the culmination of a year-long policy review led by Norwich City Council Leader Cllr. Alan Waters.
